Sunday 12/16 Ride

According to the local TV newzers, Stormageddon is approaching the Valley and will wash us all down the Salt River starting Thursday night. But if any of you are left clinging to life after the rain stops, the destination this Sunday is Oink.

Mmmmmm, bacon....

Sunday 12/9 Ride

Tomorrow it's Paradise Bakery at Gainey Ranch. Weather looks cooler, but still pretty nice for December. See ya in the morning.

Sunday 12/2 Ride

New schedule posted over there on the left, this week it's Moon Valley Cafe. How did it get to be December already? At least the weather is still warm, should be beautiful on Sunday. See you then.

Sunday 11/25 Ride

Looks like there's no holiday ride on Thursday. Even if there was, I'd have to skip it. If you are inclined, I know La Grande Orange is always open on Thanksgiving morning, so ride on over there if that trips your trigger.

Sunday is another new place- Arriba at 1812 E. Camelback. We're on a change freeze at work for the holiday week, so I shouldn't have to work. See ya Sunday...

Sunday 11/18 Ride

We have a choice between two locations for breakfast this week. First is Seed Cafe at 3802 E. Indian School, or Steve's Greenhouse downtown at 139 E. Adams.

Your assignment? Study both, come prepared to vote for your choice. Perhaps your vote will count. Or not.

Sunday 11/11 Ride

Up this week is Wildflower Bread Co on Indian School. Gary also informed me of something called Canal Convergence and a community bike ride that starts at Priest & Washington at 10:30, which might be interesting to check out.

Clicky the links, take a look, perhaps we can go tag along (although I don't know yet what my work schedule might be for Sunday, if anything).

November Schedule Posted

So a couple people have noticed that when viewing this blog on mobile devices, you can only see posts like this. The schedule off to the left can't be seen on a mobile device. So I'll try my best to get this weeks destination over here from now on. This Sunday 11/4, the destination is New York Bagels 'n Bialys at 10320 N. Scottsdale.

This week, there is also the Scottsdale Air Fair at the Scottsdale Airport. We might see some vintage aircraft flying in the area after breakfast. More details on the Air Fair available here.

October schedule posted

Remember, start time is back to "winter hours", with a 7:30 AM start now through March. So far, it looks like I might be able to make it every Sunday in October, but perhaps I just jinxed it.

See ya Sunday...

September schedule posted

There it is, remember there will be a ride on the holiday Monday. Got a couple new places on the list this month. However, I can tell you that I will be in South Dakota on Sept. 16, and work is probably going to keep me from showing up on the 9th.

I'll leave you this morning with Jerry Seinfeld and Alec Baldwin stopping for a cup of coffee. See ya Sunday.

The route from Station 1 will be as follows:

  • East on Osborn to Central Ave
  • North on Central to Hatcher
  • East on Hatcher to 7th St
  • North on 7th St to Happy Valley

Tour of Duty Ride 2012 episode 1

Our own Scott Timmerman will be leavng next weekend for his ride across the country from the USS Midway in San Diego, ending at the USS Intrepid in New York City on Sept. 10. .

Scott bailed out on our Sunday ride after climbing the Dreamy Draw, to go down to Channel 3 to do this interview with some of his co-riders.

He promised pictures from the road, I'll post anything I get from him as soon as I can.

Mars is hard

Out of the 39 times we've blasted some sort of rocket ship to Mars, less than half (15) have been successful.
The latest attempt, the Mars Science Laboratory, is scheduled to deposit the Curiosity rover on the surface of the red planet Sunday night.

Here's what exactly has to happen tomorrow to avoid leaving another small heap of titanium and aluminum alloys on the surface. This is crazy, I hope they can pull it off.

August ride schedule posted

With five Sundays, one holiday ride, and a wimpy monsoon letting me bike to work 17 times in July, I managed to get just shy of 600 miles for the month.

Up this Sunday is First Watch at Scottsdale Rd. and Frank Lloyd Wright. I should be able to make it, at least, nothing is scheduled yet for work...

See ya Sunday!

US Egg

Wow, is this three Sundays in a row I'll string together? Looks like it, no work project this weekend.

Really no reason at all for putting up a post, other than this video I stumbled across. Jerry Seinfeld has a new series called Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee. Those are a few vehicles from his collection (I've read he has the first AND the last air-cooled 911 Porsches built in Zuffenhausen).

July 4 Ride

It didn't make it onto the schedule, but there will be a ride from Granada this Wednesday. 6:30 AM, the usual time. No destination was planned, but we can head over to Randy's, we just might have to wait for a table (certainly not a long wait that early on a holiday).

July schedule posted!

Got the new schedule Thursday morning, but this is the first chance I've had to update here.

I previously thought I'd not be able to make this week's ride due to work, but the work thing was put off to 1 PM, which means I can make it to Oink! and all their bacony goodness.

See ya at the park Sunday...

No new schedule just yet...

No idea where we're going yet this Sunday, but rest assured I'll post it when I get it.

I had said last Sunday that I'd miss the July 1 ride. However it looks like I will be able to make it after all, as the obligatory Sunday work thing doesn't start until 1 PM.

See ya Sunday!

June schedule posted

I can tell you for sure I will miss the next two rides (June 3 and 10). The rest of the month is in limbo, as it looks like work will be heating up again. There's just not enough Sundays in a week to get done everything we need to get done.

Ride leader needed Sunday 5/27

Something has come up at work that will keep me from leading tomorrow. I was so looking forward to dragging you all up Dreamy Draw so early in the morning.

I should be able to make the Monday Memorial Day ride to Randy's.

Leaving you with a great new app for your iPad (hat tip to Gary as usual!).

New Schedule Posted

The May schedule is posted over there to the left, and a new place in PV is the destination this Sunday. The Oink Cafe looks like it is all about bacon-y goodness. Bacon pancakes? Maple glazed bacon donuts? Mmmmmm, bacon!

See ya Sunday.

Riding the Vortex

So I have a few pictures to post of the fun from this past weekend's MS Ride The Vortex event in the Cottonwood/Sedona area. Unfortunately, my camera spent most of its time wrapped in plastic.

The Friday night forecast called for rain all night, but Saturday morning it was cold but the streets were dry. The clouds tumbling over Mingus Mountain looked a bit frightening, but hey it was dry! So we started out hopeful on the 65 mile Sedona loop.

Sometime after the first rest stop, it began to lightly rain. Very fine mist actually. A Seattle-kind of rain. Then came the sleet. Oh joy.

Sometime before Oak Creek, the sleet changed to hail. At least, that's what we called it based on the fact that even though it looked like large sleet, the particles were bouncing on the pavement (don't know if that's the legal definition of hail, but it sounds good to me).

At the rest stop in Oak Creek, the ride organizers put a hold on anyone proceeding any further until a snow squall passing through Sedona eased up. So we stood around a bike store warming up for about 30 minutes until the course was reopened, and discussed how good an idea this ride sounded back in January.

We pedaled out of Oak Creek in a snow shower, and then in Sedona we made the turn south into the wind for the first time. Now it's pretty much downhill from Sedona to Cottonwood, but you wouldn't have known that Saturday. If you stopped pedaling downhill, the wind stopped you. The snow did ease up as we made the decent.

So eight hours after leaving the Verde Valley Fairgrounds, we completed the 65 miles. What a day. But at least there were no volcanoes erupting...

Ride leader needed for Easter

Just a reminder, I can't make it tomorrow for the Easter ride. And the following Sunday 4/15 as well, as I'll be participating in the MS Ride The Vortex ride in the Cottonwood-Sedona area. Thanks to all who donated, I blew past my goal thanks to you.

By the way, Fox10 News showed up at our office for a live shot Thursday morning to promote the ride. Yes, that is not my bike I was riding, I'll 'splain it next time I see y'all.

Lastly, I'll leave you with the original pitch Jim Henson made to CBS years ago for "The Muppet Show" I just stumbled on.

Remember it's 6:30 starting this week

No, I assure you this is no April Fool's joke. Yes, you have to drag your butt out of bed an hour earlier this week, our summer ride hours are starting.

Finally got around to posting the new schedule over there on the left, and I can see via Sitemeter that a few of you have been looking to see where we're going this week.

I can say for sure I will not be around for the ride on the 15th, as I'll be in the Sedona area on the MS Ride The Vortex ride. And if you haven't yet donated, there is still time!

See you Sunday.

Well, it's rapidly approaching, this year's Bike MS event to "Ride The Vortex" on April 14-15. And again this year, I am here on my knees asking for your help. Click that link over there on the left and give what you can to MS.

And again, this week only, I am matching dollar for dollar all contributions made this week thru Sunday Feb 19, up to $150.

So do your part, make BDWG cry. My matching contribution will be posted Monday Feb. 20, so get those credit cards out and heat 'em up.

Ride leader needed most likely Jan 8 & 15

I have quite the full weekend of work activity, including an OS upgrade that starts at 9 PM tonight. So the chances of me making it to the ride Sunday is slim to none.

And NEXT weekend is right out- another system upgrade (the very last!) is scheduled then.

I was just looking at my calendar, and the last time I was there on Sunday was November 20. That's depressing. So anyway, enjoy the beautiful weather, and perhaps on the 22nd I'll be able to make it.
