R.E.M. - Hollywood Bowl - May 29

Just returned from Hollywood after seeing R.E.M. at the Hollywood Bowl Thursday night. Hands down, my favorite venue I've ever been to.

We arrived in town about 2:30 PM, and wandered up the street with our picnic lunch and a bottle of wine and spent the afternoon chatting with another couple who had the same idea (i.e. blow off work and enjoy the beautiful day in the sun). After a little while, we heard the band's sound check ("Pretty Persuasion" and "I Took Your Name").

As usual, when the first opening act came on at 6:30, there were barely a couple thousand people in the seats (LA traffic being what it is, not surprising I guess). Too bad for them, because The National is a great act.

Here's a few pictures from the show, click on the image to view full size. Next week, I'm off to Chicago to see the same show there with my brothers and my friend Dean.

Deer Valley Airport

It was off to Deer Valley Airport yesterday, and we started with a group of 21 people (!). And of course, The Curse of Deer Valley struck yet again- I picked up two large staples- the kind they use to put together cardboard boxes- in my rear tire.

I call it The Curse of Deer Valley because not only do we seem to have the most flats to and from that destination, I also broke the frame of my Trek last year on the way there.

Here's a couple pics... That's Marty demanding his three feet of the road for his new recumbant, and below that is young Conner after returning to the park. The kid is a pretty darn good rider, and I see him getting bored with the 3's pace very soon.

Remember, two rides next weekend, Sunday and Monday. First Watch near Metrocenter on Sunday, and Randy's in Scottsdale on the holiday. Remember, Randy's does not take credit cards.

Canoeing in Black Canyon

Regina sent me this picture of her canoeing in Black Canyon on the Colorado River recently. What an incredible trip that must have been, it sure does look beautiful.

If I wasn't so deathly afraid of drowning, I'd consider going myself sometime....

Eye Opener - Sunnyslope

OK, last week we had a picture of the girls, this week it's the guys turn. That's one of the Mikes and Gary trying to come up with the words to "Oh Canada".

For what looks like our first 100 degree day this weekend, we'll be heading up to the Deer Valley Airport. Perhaps I'll come up with a variation of the same old route, but don't count on it.

U.S. Egg - Scottsdale

Finally getting around to putting up this picture from Sunday - Esther and Patty outside of U.S. Egg. Yet again I bailed out on the group before getting back to the park, as I had to stop by work and take care of some Sunday downtime issues.

This coming Sunday is Mother's Day of course, and we'll be going to the Eye Opener in Sunnyslope. If you have any suggestions for what kind of roundabout way to get there, I'm all ears.

See ya Sunday...
