Hi I'm Ted, and this is my other brother Ted

Okay, this post is for my brother, if he manages to stop by today. On Friday, a spring snow storm in South Dakota dumped up to 15 inches in areas (my mom says Alexandria, where he lives, got 9 inches).

He was busy traveling this weekend, so I didn't have a chance to call him and gloat.

Meanwhile, it was another beautiful spring day in the desert. Here's a picture of Tim and Tom enjoying the sunny day. By the way, Tom is the one in the sunglasses.

The May schedule will be posted as soon as I get it. See ya next Sunday.

Critter watch

Riding home from work yesterday through the Dreamy Draw, this roadrunner was showing off his freshly-banged-against-a-rock gecko that would soon be dinner. He stayed there for quite awhile, letting me snap four exposures, but unfortunately the light was coming in at a crappy angle. These are the best two shots, click to see them full size.

Mimi's - Metrocenter

Here's a pic of Bill, Regina and Dick waiting for their check yesterday (and waiting... and waiting...).

Next week is Five and Diner on Indian Bend on the rez. The perfect time of year for breakfast outside. See ya then...

What passes for a debate...

Did you see that gawd-awful debate the other night? I didn't bother, as political news coverage on TV is teh stoopid.

Check this out, a nice little summary of the crap Charlie Gibson and George Snuffleupagus shoveled at us this week.

Hottest thing on the Intertubes currently...

seems to be the Kobe Bryant car jumping video.

Doesn't this have to be fake? I mean, there's no way the LA Lakers lawyers would possibly let him do this.

Watch it, and you tell me...

First Watch #1

Another beautiful spring morning for a ride, apparently it was nice enough to draw Julie out of hibernation.

We'd almost forgotten what you looked like, you were gone so long, so let's put up a picture to make sure everyone knows who you are. Smile, Julie....
Remember, the ABC Desert Classic ride is coming up this Saturday April 12. You can find a registration form in the March newsletter here, or register online here. See you there!

The critters are waking up

Springtime is definitely here in the desert- on the way home from work Wednesday, I saw the first rattlesnake of the year. Or more accurately, I almost ran over my first rattlesnake.

I was climbing up the second hill in the Dreamy Draw, and he was stretched out on the pavement soaking up some end-of-the-day warmth from the concrete. It didn't even register that it was a rattler until I was passing right behind him.

So Thursday, after berating myself for not having my camera with me, I threw it in my bag this time just in case.

Guess what? Again in the Dreamy Draw, a good-sized Gila Monster was spotted by a fellow cyclist, and he flagged me down as I approached and told me what just crossed his path. I got the camera out as quickly as I could, and managed to snap this picture of him before he slowly ambled into the brush and disappeared. Click on the picture for a bigger image...
